Ordos Qipanjing Wastewater Treatment Plant No.1 First-Pass RO System
Seven first-pass RO units in a 20:10 arrangement with 210 elements convert reclaimed water at 4513 μS/cm into demineralized water at 63 μS/cm, delivering 160 m³/h at 98.6% rejection.

Project Overview
Client, scale, feed water and project background
The Ordos Group Qipanjing wastewater treatment plant handles sewage treatment and reuse for the Qipanjing Industrial Park. Park influent is high in salinity, and the No.1 first-pass RO system uses plant reclaimed water as feed, producing demineralized water for park enterprises after advanced treatment.
The system uses seven first-pass RO units in a 20:10 arrangement, loaded with 210 QC-LP-8040-400FR fouling-resistant elements. The process is: reclaimed water → multi-media softener → ultrafiltration → bag filter → first-pass RO → degasser → demineralized water tank. The multi-media softener targets the high-hardness feed to reduce scaling risk, while the bag filter serves as the final RO guard.
Installation and commissioning of all 210 elements were completed and the system put into operation on 12 November 2021. Site measurements: feed conductivity 4513 μS/cm, permeate conductivity 63 μS/cm, system permeate flow 160 m³/h, rejection 98.6%, recovery 68%, operating pressure 1.2 MPa. All figures satisfy the system design and technical agreement, and the client rated both product performance and technical service as very satisfactory.

Process Design
System flow, design boundaries and key control points
The multi-media softener addresses high-hardness reclaimed water and UF controls turbidity and colloids, while the bag filter acts as the final guard; the degasser removes free CO₂ from the permeate to reduce downstream corrosion risk.
Scale configuration of seven units at 20:10
Each unit holds 30 elements (20 in stage one, 10 in stage two), and seven units in parallel reach 160 m³/h, allowing start/stop on demand and cleaning train by train.
Softening + UF for high-hardness reclaimed water
The multi-media softener reduces hardness and UF controls SDI, so both scaling and fouling risks are kept low by the two-stage pretreatment.
Low-pressure operation at the 1.2 MPa class
Operating at 1.2 MPa and 68% recovery balances permeate output against energy consumption with a 4513 μS/cm feed.
Delivered on train-by-train commissioning data
After installing the 210 elements, permeate flow and conductivity were logged train by train; the seven units were only put into full service once their performance was consistent.

Project Results
Client acceptance conclusions and reusable engineering experience
Commissioned and put into service on the first attempt
After installing the 210 elements, commissioning was completed and the system entered service the same day, with permeate flow and quality reaching design values immediately.
Stable desalination of high-salinity reclaimed water
Feed 4513 μS/cm to permeate 63 μS/cm at 98.6% rejection confirms the suitability of fouling-resistant membranes for high-salinity reclaimed water.
Client rated very satisfactory on both counts
The acceptance form records very satisfactory for both product performance and technical service, laying the groundwork for further cooperation in the park.
